PBR Materials for your Rendering Projects
- Albedo: The albedo map defines the color and texture of the material.
- Normal: The normal map defines the surface direction and detail.
- Roughness: The roughness map defines the smoothness or roughness of the material.
- Metallic: The metallic map defines whether the material is metallic or not.
- Ambient Occlusion: The ambient occlusion map defines the material's ambient shadow.
How to read those maps in a shader
Albedo must not contain lighting—only color. Roughness is usually white = matte. Metallic is 0 or 1, not a muddy 0.5 “because it is dirty.” Normal needs the engine’s normal unpack (a Normal Map node in Blender).
