Free 4K wood PBR textures for Blender are the fastest way to get oak floors and parquet furniture looking like a real species—if you wire Principled BSDF correctly and set plank scale. A 4K tile still fails when roughness stays in sRGB or when three boards fill a two-meter room.

Why 4K wood maps matter in Blender
4K (4096×4096) is worth it on hero wood: tabletops, kitchen islands, and floors that fill the frame. Grain, pores, and lacquer micro-scratches survive a close crop. Distant cladding and background furniture can stay at 2K. Do not upscale a 1K JPEG and call it 4K; you only enlarge noise. Oak versus parquet: pick the module
Oak plank textures show long grain and a few knots. Real interior planks often sit around 12–19 cm wide. If your 4K tile shows four boards, the tile is roughly 50–75 cm across—set UVs from that number, not from “looks nice in the node editor.” Parquet and herringbone are a different module: pieces are smaller, and the pattern should already live in the albedo. Do not try to build herringbone by rotating a plank tile on every face; seams will fight you. - Oak / ash planks — long grain, 10–20 cm width, mid roughness for oiled floors.

Principled BSDF setup for wood
Create a material, keep Principled BSDF, and add one Image Texture node per map. Albedo goes to Base Color in sRGB. Roughness, normal, ambient occlusion, and height use Non-Color. Metallic stays at 0. Put the normal through a Normal Map node (OpenGL unless the pack says DirectX). Share one Texture Coordinate → Mapping chain so grain, gloss, and bump stay aligned. Scale, UVs, and grain direction
Wood stretch is obvious: knots become ovals and grain runs across a plank. Unwrap floors as simple quads and let the texture tile past 0–1. Align UVs with plank direction. Furniture can use a unique unwrap so a knot does not repeat three times on one table. If two objects sit in the same shot, keep texel density similar or the chair will look sharper than the floor. Hide seams on undersides and inside rebates.
Light the finish, do not fake chrome wood
Oiled oak is not a mirror. If you drop roughness to 0.05 to “make it luxury,” it reads as wet plastic. Let an HDRI create the sheen and keep the roughness map in charge. Raw timber is brighter (rougher); lacquer is darker (glossier); traffic lanes sit in between. Preview in Material Preview or Cycles, not in a grey void. Plastic look usually means roughness is still sRGB. Dirty look usually means the albedo has baked shadows.
