Architects do not pick 3D rendering software for feature checklists alone. They pick it for the CAD file they already have, the time to the next client meeting, and whether materials will survive a lighting change. These five options all accept PBR maps. Max shines at large scenes, RailClone-style scattering, and layered CAD imports. The cost is the Autodesk subscription plus the renderer. 3. Unreal Engine 5

When the deliverable is a walkthrough, not a JPEG, Unreal plus Lumen and Nanite is hard to ignore. Datasmith brings in Revit and Max scenes. Materials are standard PBR; the discipline is texture memory and lighting, not a different map set. Use 1K–2K on modular walls so a laptop can still orbit. 4. SketchUp with Enscape or Lumion

Many architects already model in SketchUp. Enscape (and similar live viewers) plus Lumion optimize for speed: drop a material, orbit, present. They read PBR-ish maps (color, normal, roughness) but hide node graphs. That is a feature for deadlines and a limitation when you need thin-film or layered glass. Do not feed them 8K tiles on every face; Enscape will choke before the client notices extra grout. 5. Cinema 4D with Redshift

Common in motion-minded studios that animate camera paths and furniture turntables. Redshift’s standard material is PBR metalness-roughness. GPU speed is the draw; the Maxon subscription is the cost. Good for hero interiors and mixed CG + footage. Same map rules: sRGB albedo, linear roughness and normal. If your team already lives in After Effects, C4D’s compositing path is smoother than Max’s.
