This page is the editorial method behind Locker3d — how a file becomes a public texture page, what we refuse to write, and how a community upload is reviewed. It is not a “best textures 2026” list. If you only want a download, open the library. If you want to know who is talking, start here and then read About.

What Locker3d actually is

Locker3d is a catalog of CC0 PBR textures. Official pages use the old Blogger URL shape /YYYY/MM/slug.html. Categories are the 15 families in the menu: wood, wall, tiles, concrete, stone, floor, metal, ground, fabric, leather, marble, asphalt, granite, glass, abstract. Resolutions on those pages are 1K, 2K and 4K. We do not host 8K ZIP packs on this server and we do not label a 4K Drive folder as 8K.

A catalog is not the same as a scan studio. We do not claim that every historical asset was photoscanned in Latin America by Locker3d. Many files entered the archive from public-domain CC0 sources. Our job now is honest grouping, unique first-party copy, working Drive links, and a review queue for new uploads. Future original scans will be labeled as such when they exist — not before.

The checklist on every official page

When we open a texture for catalog copy we answer five questions. If we cannot answer them, the page stays thin and we rewrite it.

  1. What is the surface? Tokens in the slug matter: mossy, worn, wet, rusted, painted, cracked, yellow, cobble, brick, plaster, plank, tile. Yellow plaster is pigmented stucco, not a generic wall JPEG. Worn planks are scuffed boards, not a clean oak veneer.
  2. Where does it sit in a scene? A kitchen ceramic belongs in tiles. A walkable board belongs in wood or floor. Mixing those hubs is how artists pick the wrong scale.
  3. Which maps are honest? Albedo, normal and roughness are the default. Height and AO when the pack has them. Metallic only if the surface is actually metal. We strip metallic from plaster, wood, tile and concrete lists. Color space: albedo sRGB; data maps Non-Color. Setup: PBR in Blender.
  4. What world-space size? A 2 m plaster tile is not a 30 cm ceramic. If you cannot name a starting size, the first render will look stamped. That is why we keep a separate texel-density checklist.
  5. What resolution is on the disk? If the file is 4096, we say 4K. We never promise 8K to chase a keyword.

What we will not write

We will not clone Poly Haven descriptions. We will not invent “original photoscans from Buenos Aires” for a file we did not shoot. We will not publish 32 doorway “vs X” pages. Comparison URLs stay limited: the umbrella English compare, a listicle, paid-vs-free, Megascans, and the Spanish alternativa a Poly Haven. More “vs” pages would be doorway spam.

We also will not hide CMS-editable text to make a mobile hero look tidy. If a paragraph is on the page, it has to remain readable on a 375×667 phone. That is a product rule, not an SEO trick.

Downloads, previews, and where files live

Official packs currently download from Google Drive. That is not elegant, but it is what the archive uses; we do not silently rehost 4K ZIPs on shared hosting. Previews were historically on a Blogger CDN. We now prefer self-hosted thumbs under /img/thumbs/ when the file exists, so a grid does not depend on a third-party cookie farm.

If a Drive folder 404s, email contact@locker3d.com. Do not assume the texture was “removed for license reasons” until we say so. CC0 on official files is documented in what you can and cannot do and on Terms.

Community review

The upload form asks for an albedo and optional normal/roughness. Nothing goes live without a human pass:

  • The albedo is a real map, not a screenshot of someone else’s store.
  • No marketplace watermark, no “not for redistribution” footer.
  • The title describes the surface (worn oak, wet asphalt), not “texture11”.
  • We list only the maps the artist sent. We do not invent height or 8K.
  • The uploader must be able to grant the license they tick.

Approved files appear under Community with their own URL. Rejected files stay out. That queue is slower than an auto-publish bucket on purpose.

How this method shows up in the catalog

High-traffic examples we keep rewriting by hand: yellow plaster, worn planks, square tiles, patio tiles. Scene kits group matching maps: interior wood, urban concrete, natural ground. If you are choosing a pack for a deadline, use how to pick free PBR textures for client archviz. Interior kit: PBR textures for archviz interiors.

New visitors who want a short path: start here. Resolution theory: 1K vs 2K vs 4K. We would rather maintain these few pages well than publish fifty “best wood 2026” stubs.

Frequently asked questions

Does Locker3d photoscan every texture in the library?

No. Locker3d is a catalog. Many historical files came from public CC0 libraries. We write unique page copy, group by category, and list the maps that are actually in the pack. We do not invent original LATAM photoscans.

Why do you say 1K–4K and not 8K?

Because that is what the packs contain. Advertising 8K on a 4096 file is a lie. If you need 8K scans or HDRI, use a library that actually ships them.

How do community uploads get approved?

We check a readable albedo, optional normal/roughness, a clear title, no marketplace watermarks, and a license the uploader can grant. Rejected files stay out of the gallery.
